 Remains: Series 4, 2020 - 21.

Animal bone, ceramic reclaim, ash, lead & 22k gold leaf. Variable dimensions. 2020 – 21.

Remains is an ongoing experimental series, which began in 2014.

While providing an avenue for detailed material-based experimentation, Remains serves as a champion to the intrinsic and extrinsic meaning of chosen materials. The pieces of Series 4 preserve both found and assembled animal bones in a mixture of ash, lead and the pulverised ceramic reclaim of earlier works and recent failed experiments. Selected works are then finished with 22 karat gold leaf detailing.

Through a process of halting natural decay, these works signify the foundational themes of my longer-term projects and other series’ work, which intersect realities of mortality and questions of legacy.

Ultimately, I hope for the work to speak in delicate, reverent terms; posing as a marker for my long-standing study of commemorative traditions and practices. The ongoing iterations of Remains both has, and continues to inform all aspects of my broader studio practice.
